Short answers questions.
Short answers questions.
1.
What does the human
skeletal system consist of?
Ans:- The
skeletal system consists of all the bones present in the body.
2.
Write a few lines about
ribcage.
Ans:- The
ribcage is a bony structure present in the chest region. It protects our
internal organ lungs and heart. It is made up of 12 pairs of curved bones
called ribs. They joined the
backbone at the back. Two pair of lower ribs is called floating ribs. The
middle bone present at the centre of ribcage is called sternum.
3.
What is sternum?

3.
What is sternum?
Ans:- The sternum
is a long flat bone which is located in the central part of the chest.
4.
Name the two
girdles present in our body.
Ans:- The two girdles present in our body are- The
shoulder girdle and the hip girdle.
5.
What is the type of
joint found between the first and the second vertebrate of the neck region of
the backbones?
Ans:- Pivot joints are found between first and second
vertebra of the neck region of the backbone.
6.
What are voluntary
muscles? Give two examples.
Ans:- Voluntary muscles are those which can be controlled by us. Ex- arms
and legs.
7.
What are
involuntary muscles? Give two examples.
Ans:-
Involuntary muscles are those which cannot be controlled by us. Ex- muscles
present in stomach, intestines.
8.
Write any two
reasons why bones are important.
Ans:- Bones are important because
i.
They provide shape and support to the body.
ii.
They allow movement of various parts of the
body.
9.
Why is it important
to maintain the correct posture while sitting or standing?
Ans:- It
is important to maintain the correct posture while sitting or standing because
incorrect posture puts burden on the backbone and joints which may lead to
joints and muscles pain later.
G.
Long answer questions.
1.
Discuss the
different types of bones present in the human body.
Ans:- The
human body has different types of bones.
§ Bones of
the limbs, including those of the fingers and toes are long.
§ Bones of
wrist and ankle are short.
§ Most of
the bones of the skull and the breastbone are flat in shape.
§ The bones
of the spine, hips and some of the bones of the skull are irregular in shape.
2.
Describe the
structure of the skull.
Ans:- The skull
is a hollow, round structure present in the head.
§ It is
made up of 22 bones.
§ Eight
bones form the part of the skull that protects the brain and fourteen bones
form the face.
§ All the
bones of the skull are fixed and immovable except the lower jaw.
3.
Describe the
structure of the upper and lower limbs.
Ans:- Upper limbs have two parts: a pair of upper arm
and a pair of lower arm. The bones present in the upper arms are called
humerus. , is joined to the two bones of the lower arm at the elbow.
Lower
limbs have two parts: the upper leg and the lower leg. The upper leg has the
longest bone in the body, called the femur. It is joined to the two bones of
the two bones of the lower legs at the knees.
4.
What are the
functions of the skeletal system?
Ans:- The functions of the skeletal system are-
§ It gives
shape and support to the body.
§ It
protects the delicate internal organs such as the brain, spinal cord, heart and
lungs.
§ It allows
the movement of the various parts of the body.
§ Bone
marrow is placed inside the bones produces the red blood cells. The bones of the
skeleton also store the mineral calcium.
5.
What is a joint?
Name the various types of joints and give examples.
Ans:- A joint is a place in the skeleton where two or
more bones connect.
Types of joints are-
§ Ball and
socket joints– the shoulder and the hips joints are examples of
ball and socket joint.
§ Hinge
joint– The knees, elbows, fingers and toes are examples of hinge joint.
§ Pivot
joint– Pivot joint between
your skull and the top vertebrae that allows your head to turn.
6.
Describe the
different types of muscles present in our body.
Ans:- There are two types of muscles present in our
body are-
·
Voluntary
muscles- The muscles whose movements can be controlled by us
are called voluntary muscles. E.g.- arm and leg.
·
Involuntary
muscles– The
muscles whose movement cannot be controlled by us are called involuntary
muscles. There are two types of involuntary muscles.
1. Smooth
muscles- These muscles present inside internal organs. E.g.- stomach and
intestines.
2. Cardiac
muscles- These muscles present inside the wall of the heart. These muscles help
in pumping blood to different parts of the body.
7.
Explain how
including foods rich in proteins, vitamins and minerals in our diet keep our
bones, joints and muscles healthy. Mention any two sources of each of these
nutrients.
Ans:-
Proteins help in the growth and repair of the body. Proteins help in building
muscles. Two sources of proteins are pulses and milk. Vitamins and minerals
protect our body from diseases and help in making bones, joints and muscles
strong and healthy. Two sources of vitamins and minerals are food item which
are rich in vitamin C include citrus fruits and green leafy vegetables.
